Beneath the Pyramids of Giza lies a natural cave system lost for nearly 200 years.
It was rediscovered on March 3rd, 2008, by a team headed by writer and explorer Andrew Collins, working with Egyptological researcher Nigel Skinner-Simpson and British engineer Rodney Hale.
The cave system is natural and was last known to have been explored to any depth by British explorer and diplomat Henry Salt and Italian explorer Giovanni Caviglia in 1817. They never published any details of their discoveries. It is now believed that the caves might follow the course of local faulting, and head in the direction of the Second Pyramid, the site of the legendary Tomb of Hermes.
